Tackling the Challenges of the Future by means of Inter-Municipality Cooperation

As a consequence of the expected further growth of the region, the City of Munich and the surrounding region are becoming even more closely inter-connected in the future. The forum "City and Environs" deals with the question of how the resulting traffic volume can be managed sustainable by intensifying regional cooperation and by harmonizing traffic and settlement planning.

Results and Recommendations  (as of Inzell VIII, 2010)

  • In order to further develop the multi-modal traffic modal for the Munich region, the database on commercial transport will be updated with data from the survey "Automobile Traffic in Germany 2010-KiD 2010".

  • The project “Settlement Development and Mobility“ (SDM) will assess the financial consequences of new building areas on the municipal budget and the role of locational choice within the municipality. In addition, the consequences of construction development on the quality and financing of public transport within the municipalities will be examined.

  • The concept of decentralized freight distribution hubs for the Munich region is going to be taken to the next level with the establishment of two freight distribution hubs at Friedenheimer Brücke (CLZ) and at Hofbräuallee in Riem (GVZ Ost). Electrically powered vehicles will be increasingly used for deliveries to Munich's inner city.

  • The idea of creating tangential bus routes in MVV-operated regional bus traffic in the environs will be further developed considering the existing studies on the City-Environs-Train without neglecting the objective of a longterm maintenance of existing lines.
