In retrospect: the previous stages of the Inzell Initiative

2009: Inzell VIII – Munich (> brochure ca. 2.8 MB (in german))

The discussion about challenges and opportunities of future traffic development and the shaping of transportation systems dominated the eighth plenary workshop of the Inzell Initiative at November, the 26th in Munich. The newly founded forum ‘future of mobility’, which is under the patronage of the mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, presented its results. The findings should eventually lead into new projects in the realm of transportation in the region. After the presentation of other Inzell-forums’ activities, the afternoon workshop-groups took on the conclusions of the morning. Hence, the workshop-session was aiming to recess the results in order to debate possible involvement of the Inzell-Initiative in the newly raised topics.

2007: Inzell VII – Garching (> brochure ca. 2.2 MB (in german))

Due to the great number of participants it was necessary to hold a preparatory discussion meeting on the current status of the individual projects prior to the plenary workshop. A separate meeting, the Technical Meeting was held on November 7, 2006. It provided sufficient time for the discussion of long-term development trends for the Munich region and their potential impact on mobility. To get a clearer picture on the future of mobility it was decided to found a forum entitled „The Future of Mobility in the Munich Region“. Lord Mayor Ude accepted the patronage of this forum.

2005: Inzell VI – Unterschleißheim (> brochure ca. 1.5 MB (in german))

The start of arrive. An important instrument that is conceived to pave the way for answers to the questions brought up in the Inzell forums. Further important topics are the extension of the MVV public traffic transport region, the discussion on the targets of the Red Routes as well as a traffic and mobility management concept. The forum „City and the Surrounding Regions“ is dedicated to the opportunities of a strategic and operative cooperation between the communities in questions of residential and traffic development.

2004: Inzell V – Germering (> brochure, ca. 2.2 MB (in german))

With 79 participants the Inzell Initiative further enlarged its basis. The regional dimension of traffic problems is discussed in two working groups with regard to traffic control and traffic panning. The forum „Parking“ has been suspended because of the successful implementation of the projects. The contents structure of the forums „Traffic Management“ is consolidated: In future, traffic management should increasingly integrate the entire region. The forum „Traffic Development in the City and the Region“ is founded and should focus on economic and recreational traffic with a standard regional data base. An annual traffic conference is initiated. With the implementation of the revised Federal Immission Control Act and the third amendment of the Bavarian Construction Regulations two subjects are discussed which are at least directly relating to traffic.

Finally, the application for the research project „arrive – offerings for a mobile region“ was presented which was submitted for financial support within the framework of the BMBF-Tendering „Traffic Management 2010“. The contents of the application are also integrated in the new forum structures as they are largely identical with the new mainfields of Inzell V. However, a development to the envisaged extent will only be possible with public subsidies.

2001: Inzell IV – Freising(> brochure, ca. 2.7 MB (in german))

The integrative function of the Inzell Initiative and the number of institutions increases, the number of participants doubles to 60. Apart from the existing forums the forum „Traffic Management Economic Area Munich“ headed by the Kreisverwaltungsreferat (Department of Public Order and Security) of the City of Munich as patron is founded. The projects Traffic Control Center, Regional Traffic Data and „Mobility Service“ are combined. Further projects are Traffic Management at the Federal Horticultural Exhibition Munich 2005, Ride-Sharing and the City Delivery Project CAPRI).

1998: Inzell III – Unterhaching (> brochure, ca. 5.8 MB (in german))

A number of subjects of the Inzell Initiative are integrated in the research project „Mobility in Metropolitan Areas MOBINET“. In 1998, the Federal Research Ministry decided to support the MOBINET project with 45 million DM as a pilot project. The Inzell Initiative adapted its project structure to enable an adequate monitoring of the project. The subjects are concentrated in the forums „Parking-space Management“ (supported by the International Chamber of Commerce of Munich and Upper Bavaria), „Public Transport“ (supported by the MVV) and „Red Routes“ (supported by BMW).

1996: Inzell II – Haar (> brochure, ca. 3.6 MB (in german))

A new approach is introduced: A working group headed by BMW is set up entitled „Red Routes“ to collect new elements for a systematic improvement of the network of arterial roads. The results provided an important input to the new municipal traffic concept. The second project to be focused on was the „Parking-space Management“ which was intensely discussed at the time. It has been consequently developed and successfully implemented since then.

1995: Kick-off in Inzell I (> brochure, ca. 1MB (in german))

„Looking for joint solutions in traffic policy apart from political differences“ - this was the aim of the Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, and of BMW AG when they first invited decision makers from politics, economy, administration and other organisations to Inzell in September 1995. Within two days the participants agreed on priorities which are valid until today. Six projects – ranging from traffic telematics A99 to the train station of the future – were put on track.
